Office 2000 .MSI file not found

While trying to download and install updates for my Office 2000 Professional
product (on my Windows 2000 Professional operating system) I was asked to
insert my CD so that the installer could find the file 'data1Std.msi'. My
original product CD only contains the file 'data1.msi' and so it did not
allow me to finish the installation. My original CD says that I own the MS
Office 2000 Professional (academic edition), but it seems like the updater
always trys to install updates that only work for the Standard version of
this product. Am I doing something wrong? Please help me. Even a short
e-mail response with some suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Tom

Two possibilities come to mind:

1. Did you separately install Front Page, Publisher, or another "2000"
series Microsoft program after you installed Office 2000? If so, try
inserting the CD for the separate program when prompted for the
data1.msi file.

2. Did Office 2000 come preinstalled on your computer by the PC
manufacturer? If so, the Office 2000 version used by the PC
manufacturer to image your hard drive might not be exactly the same as
the Office 2000 version that's on your CD. If this is the case, you
could uninstall the existing Office 2000 and reinstall it from your CD.

I'm having a similar problem and the answer is no to both your questions. I
have Office 2k professional installed on an XP machine. No separate install
and the CD I'm using is the one I used to install Office on this machine.
Install process looks for DATA1PRM.MSI (which appears to be for Premium
rather than Pofessional version) when all I have is DATA1.MSI. Trying to get
it to accepr that instead caused failed install. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi Kim,

Data1PRM.msi is from a MS Select Volume License CD,
not a retail product CD. The title on your retail
CD and the title listed in Add/Remove Programs
in the Windows control panel should match.
If not, you may want to backup your files,
uninstall the Office copy from the Control panel,
restart the PC and install from the MS retail CD.
