why do updates KB980729 and KB981715 fail to install

for Office 2007 home and student, these updates are offered by automatic
updates but fail to install and repeat each time the computer starts. This is
with Windows 7 home premium

Did you get any responses? I also can not install KB981715 its been stuck for
months

I have the same problem... only with KB981715 though. Windows 7 Home Premium
64 bit. I am not using Office 7 but was pre- loaded as a trial option . I
am using Office 2003. I think that the whatever the issue is also is
preventing other updates from other programs from happening too (Adobe
Reader, iTunes).
